HUMAN GEOGRAPHY and HUMANITIES

Page history last edited by Whitt Jones 9 months, 1 week ago

Welcome to Human Geography and Humanities (a.k.a. HGH). You might think this is an odd pairing for a freshman level elective, but when we break it down, I think it will make a little more sense to you.  Human geography is the study of human use and understanding of the world, the spatial differentiation and organization of human activity, and mankind's relationship with the physical environment.  The humanities refer to the branches of learning concerned with human thought and relationships.  The humanities often include history, literature, philosophy, and the fine arts.  A study of humanities centers on the premise that every man, no matter what time or place, strives to meet certain essential needs, namely survival and security.  Thus, in pairing the two, we are going to take a deeper look at the interrelationships of humans, their created societies, and the places they inhabit.
